Who Needs Feminism?

I need feminism because I’ve caught myself one too many times thinking “Oh, I won’t get raped, I’m too ugly/fat”.

DX

I need feminism because what happens to/in/on my body should always be my choice.

Self-Proclaimed Feminist Mom Tells Kid Dolls Are Slutty & Look Like Smokers

This is why the general public doesn’t understand feminism, because self-proclaimed feminists don’t understand feminism. This blog entry is particularly anti-feminism and it’s just full of really awful things no one should ever teach their 6-year-old child.

Holy. Effing. Crap.

But no, it gets better.

This book provides long-awaited answers to over 50 of the most challenging questions in the modern era including: 1. Are you a misogynist if you only hate feminists? 2. What is feminism in the modern era? 3. How do radical feminists view the…

A lot of these things are not at all like the others.
If my hypothetical marriage ever ruins the fuck out of someone else’s life the way other people’s drug addictions ruined mine, or causes the kind of mass violence that narco-traffickers have caused along the border, or devastates communities the way gun violence does or creates a market for rape and sex trafficking the way the sex industry does,  then I would fully support people organizing politically against my hypothetical mariage.
Or like, if my hypothetical marriage gave people lung cancer just from hearing about it.  I mean, the very first one on the list is the lowest-hanging fruit.

What “creates a market for rape” is rape culture and misogyny. Sex trafficking is a wildly-exaggerated (to the point of outright fabrication) industry as has been demonstrated over and over again (and what creates a market for it is a combination of racism, misogyny, rape culture and classism - the sex industry in and of itself does not create sex trafficking).
Seriously, the attitude that the sex industry “creates a market for rape” is amongst the worst radical feminist philosophy that automatically and forcibly positions all sex workers as victims for whom the only deliverance is the dismantling of the sex industry, which is a grotesque simplification.
But then, what do I know, I’m just some poor victimised whore.
And I was right on board until that came up.

Reblogged for commentary of goodness.
