The internet is chock full of self-righteous zits on the ass of society. I think Emirain and CC have the right idea here … ignore them. You all know the old quote about arguing with an idiot.

That said, there are people who might read this and be aware that I’m no good at “not engaging”. I can ignore bullshit to a certain point, but there comes a time when I get utterly sick of it and I will lay people out because of it. It’s not just hating on me, either. I once laid into a woman who ran an LJ community. As a community moderator, she was perfectly adequate. Unfortunately, she was also a believer that she was the one and only source of opinion anyone should ever care about. You can imagine what this was like for anyone who engaged with her at all. She berated people, attacked them personally, questioned their morality and generally strung them up by their underwear on the fence post and listened to their sobs with what I assume was the most disgusting amount of smugness man has ever known. Finally, I’d had enough. While on one of her routine warpaths through the community, she was being an unnecessarily heinous bitch to someone about something and I called her out. I called her out for being so shitty to other people, for assuming her opinion is the only one that matters, for treating people like they’re nothing more than wasted pieces of garbage for her to crumple up and dispose of because they don’t treat her opinion as if it is the opinion of some sort of Goddess or some such nonsense. And then I wrapped it up by calling her a fucking cunt. Of course then she tried to take the high road by pointing out how I just up and called someone a cunt for not agreeing with my opinion, though I had already pointed out everything else that was wrong with this person, so her “high road” attempt was null and void. I was kicked from the community, which sure as fuck beat leaving quietly with my tail between my legs.

That was a long story to basically say that silence might not always be the way to go. I think a hater that posts one time can be ignored. A hater who has a constant stream of insults at the ready and is consistently being a self-righteous piece of shit needs to be told that they’re not special. The one thing you never do with these people, is try to be nice or to reason with them. That cannot be done. Taking them down a peg, though? Well, they are but human and they’ll still get butthurt over being told what a fucktard they are.

This may also just be my Raging Bitch talking, but standing up for yourself has always been an important part of life in my eyes.
